Species: Human

History:http://avatar.wikia.com/wiki/Korra

Personality: In the Avatar Universe it is often said that the Avatar is the bridge between humans and spirits, that the Avatar is the peacekeeper and the person four nations should look to in times of trouble. Korra, the newest Avatar, fits the bill in spades. She is fierce and determined, using her strength as a bender of the elements to keep balance. Korra knew from a young age that she was meant to be the Avatar. As early as her toddler years, Korra was in the beginning stages of being able to bend three of the four elements - fire, earth, and water.

As with each Avatar before her, Korra first mastered water - the native element of the nation she was born into in the cycle of the Avatar - under the tutelage of Katara, Aang's wife and his waterbending teacher. Korra has a strong bond with Aang's family, being closest to his youngest son Tenzin who becomes her Airbending teacher. She is also close with Tenzin's three children, ready to give them tight and happy hugs that pull them off their feet.

Korra is someone who loves and cares for others deeply. Unfortunately it is the sincerity of her feelings that often puts her into conflict of what is right. She has come to conflict with her father, Tenzin, and Lin Beifong on numerous occasions throughout the series when debating what the best course of action is in a given situation. Often times Korra ends up either doing what she wants anyway or finds a way to show her own wisdom behind her actions. As Korra grows throughout the series she learns to rely more on those around her, as Aang did and learns that to be the Avatar does not mean to be completely alone.

Korra is a headstrong girl, which often translates into stubbornness, with physical prowess to back it up. She often is contrasted with Asami for being more muscular, versus feminine, and it is Asami that helps her feel comfortable in her own skin as a girl and shows her that girls come in different shapes and walks of life. Asami is a rich girl from a famous business family and works for everything she has. Korra has a similar background, being the daughter of the Southern Water Tribe's Chief and already being well respected for her title. Asami brings out the need in Korra to just be normal once in a while and to do fun things like driving - terribly - and relaxing with your friends. Asami is notably the one Korra went to when she felt insecure after her injuries inflicted during the battle with the Red Lotus proved harder to heal with time. Asami and Korra later become a couple in the series finale.

Among her friends are Bolin and Mako, brothers who are the original members of team Avatar along with Asami. Korra's relationship with Bolin is instantly a strong friendship. Bolin has a crush on her, being someone who wears his heart on his sleeve easily, but it is Mako that steals Korra's attention. Having grown up rather sheltered in the compound built for her protection in the South, Korra struggles to get Mako to open up to her and become a friend. He is standoffish and rude at times, until Korra proves herself and the two become closer. Mako and Korra date for a time until their fiery personalities begin to clash, making it hard for them to reason out staying together.

Among her enemies are the Red Lotus, Unalaq, Amon, and Kuvira. Each represents for Korra a different aspect of herself that she clings to. With Amon, Korra was still new to being an Avatar and he was the catalyst for triggering the divide between bending and nonbending, much to Korra's frustration as she took great pride in herself as a bender and the Avatar. Having been pushed in a corner by Amon, losing her bending temporarily, Korra masters Airbending after experiencing a spiritual block, due to being unable to find an affinity for the art. Having reached a low point, she grows from the experience and learns Airbending and Energybending.

With Unalaq, Korra learned respect for spirits, something she needed to have an appreciation for as the bridge between the world of spirits and the world of humans. She struggled for a time with doing the right thing as there was a civil conflict between the Northern and Southern Tribes and a conflict between Korra and her father and Tenzin on how best to train further and grow as the Avatar. Korra comes to appreciate the care that her father and Tenzin have for her, becoming apologetic for abandoning Tenzin as her mentor.

With the Red Lotus, Zaheer specifically, Korra fought off their attempts at kidnapping her and attempting to murder her for their idea of 'change' in the social structure the world was in. They saw the Avatar and governing bodies of the fire and earth nations and republic city as a threat to freedom for everyone. With the reemergence of spirits and the Air Nation, the group saw it as their time to change the world for what they saw as better. Korra's greatest loss is when Zaheer and his group poison her with mercury and when Suyin Beifong is unable to remove every fragment of it she suffers continued physical internal damage. She also suffers great emotional pain well into the final season of the series.

While Korra struggled to find inner peace and strength through what happened to her, Kuvira tried to stabilize the Earth Kingdom by creating a dictatorship under her rule and subsequently gunned for Republic City and Zhaofu - the city run by Suyin - to become part of her United Nations. Korra finds a lot of herself in Kuvira, both possessing strong morals and strong convictions about who they are and what they set out to do. She possesses the confidence that Korra has lost, having fought so long and hard for the world. Korra learns from Kuvira and grows into a more compassionate person as a result of her struggles internally and externally.

It is this compassion she had all along that became confused with brute strength and stubbornness. Korra is a passionate person by nature and as such gives her all into everything she does. She, like any coming of age story, grows and evolves as a person over time throughout the series' run. That said - Korra also learns to rely on herself, having lost the counsel of her past lives early on, and lost access to Raava for a length of time from the severity of the poison's damage on her body.
Abilities:
  • Bending

As the Avatar, Korra is a master of the main four elements of earth, air, fire, and water, but she is also a master of some subelements of bending: metal (a subclass of earthbending invented by Toph Beifong), energybending, and spiritual projection (only in so far as she was able to project her spirit during Harmonic Convergence to fight Unalaq. It is not shown that she can project her spirit in the same way as Jinora's astral projection).

  • Non-bending

Korra is incredibly physically fit, even when not aided by her bending. She often goes for long runs beside Naga, her polar bear dog (her animal companion in the way that Apa is Aang's). She can lift weights and when she hugs grown men like Tenzin she is easily able to lift them off the ground. This strength often aids her earth bending a great deal.

  • Spirit Medium

Korra is a spirit medium, able to see spirits around her that others cannot, and can communicate with them with ease. Korra is also able to bend spiritual energy, nullifying corruption within a spirit's essence as taught to her by Unalaq.

Augment Skillset: Piloting (yeah because you want the girl who can't even drive a car to be your pilot :P I figure just because she's being taught how to pilot a ship doesn't mean she has to be good at it haha)
